We’re all about supporting the “weaker” sex here at Guilty. Ladies, we’re being sarcastic! Have you seen who gives birth repeatedly? Definitely not a guy! Seriously, we found this one of those “about time” features. Sarah Lyon, an artist and motorcycle enthusiast travelled over 6000 miles on her 1978 Yamaha during the summer of 2006, photographing women mechanics from around the country for her 2007 Calendar featuring 14 Female Mechanics photographed in their environments. Found mostly through word of mouth, Sarah met with automobile, motorcycle, hot rod, jet airplane and diesel truck mechanics. This calendar challenges stereotypes of the typical tool-girl, pin-up calendar by showing real women mechanics working in their shop environments. The Female Mechanics Calendar is a full-sized 14-month wall calendar that includes multiple images of each mechanic, along with bios telling their stories of how they got into the non-traditional labor field of mechanics.
