Three Bikers Kill Bear….OUCH!
We want to extend out wish for speedy recoveries to those involved in this accident. Having personally hit a few dogs and a golpher, we can’t imagine hitting a full sized bear!
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Three bikers were rushed to an area hospital after they hit and killed a bear that was running across Interstate 95 Saturday night. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a group of six motorcycles was headed northbound on Interstate 95 just south of State Road 207 about 9 p.m.
A black bear wandered onto the highway and into the left lane of northbound I-95. A motorcycle driven by Kristina Hall, 43, of Middleburg, struck the bear and was ejected from her bike. Another motorcycle, driven by Harriet Ward, 65, of Orange Park, struck Hall’s motorcycle and was ejected. A third motorcycle, driven by Russell Lemmon, 38, of Jacksonville, also struck the bear and was ejected from his bike. The chain reaction crash also caused a St. Johns County Deputy vehicle and another car to collide. The three motorcyclists were taken to Flagler Hospital with serious injuries. There’s no word on the condition of the deputy or the driver of the other car. Northbound I-95 was shut down for about an hour. The bear was killed in the collision. The Florida Wildlife Commission helped move the bear off the highway.
