Bakers 3hp FireStarter(tm)

Friday, May 9th, 2008

bakerfirestarter.jpgOh, the challenges some V-Twin riders have to endure. They own a newly bored and re-jetted long stroke motor that needs ton’s of starting juice but can’t keep a starter for more than a few months at a time. What’s a fella to do? Well, Baker has heard your cries and come out with a 3hp (2.3 kilowatts for our metric folks) starter! As custom builders we’re frequently lead to believe (yes we can be fooled too) that when we buy a starter from one of our suppliers (not all, but some) we’re actually going to receive a “new” one. But what we get is a “rebuilt” starter. One that have been “remanufactured” using rebuilt (used) cores and sold as new. And yes, the O.E. Harley starters may have the durability but don’t have the juice. Bakers new Firestarters are the most powerful starters available and each unit is tested on a dynamometer for proper function and has an individual dyno sheet to validate the output. If you want to see one, click HERE.
The Firestarters comes in show chrome finish with a polished end cap and are available in conventional remote start as well as manual push button. However they won’t fit FLs due to clearance issues. For more info on these starter go to Baker’s site! So, now all you big twin owners won’t have to be asking “Hey buddy, can i get a jump here?”

Hey, thanks for coming back! Great to see there are a few of you out there that have taste and style! Seriously, thanks for visiting. If you know of stories you think people would be interested in, shoot us a line C'ya!

$6.9 Million worth of Hay for IronHorse

Friday, May 9th, 2008

ironhorsebikes.jpgThe story continues over who will end up taking the reins of embattled American IronHorse Motorcycles. Will it be Scott Meyers or the founder of American IronHorse Bill Rucker or possibly someone else riding off into the sunset with IronHorse? Meyers was the first to pitch a $6.7 million bid which was set by the federal bankruptcy court in May. Rucker followed shortly after with a motion to buy the company for $6.9 million. Both men, Meyers (former president of Alliant Techsystems and multiple Ironhorse Dealership owner) and Rucker (founder of IronHorse and forced out in 03′, operates Rucker Performance-a motorcycle maker and auto customizer) have the drive and or ego’s as well as the money to throw around it seems. For us the question(s) seem to be, 1) do they have the skills/talent etc to turn this company around in a down economy when even H-D is downsizing production and staff? 2) What will become of those owners who have one (or multiple) of IronHorse’s bikes sitting in their garage? IronHorse, which now has eight employees, had a work force of 450 in 2005 when sales peaked at $100 million. Whoever wins will surely get a lot of interest from owners, along with dealers, (who have approximately 750) and Textron Corp (who is the companies main lender) with 400.

“Special Ops” Bike Build Starts

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

spurlin_chopper_edited.jpgSpecial Ops soldier Ash Spurlin’s “Errant” inspired chopper is now up on two wheels. Waiting to be mounted is a 4″ stretched sporty tank; one of Guilty’s Wide Glide Girder front-ends with a S&S Indian 93″ motor along with a 2″ open BDL primary to name a few things. This bike will be rockin’ the roads with Ash and his buddies by mid summer. Ash is currently leaving Hong Kong where he’s been stationed waiting to head to California to see family and friends. Later this summer he’ll be heading to the eastern seaboard to catch up with us here at Guilty so he can take delivery of his newest toy. Click HERE for Ash’s story.

Honda Bobber Update

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

honda_sideview_edited.jpgWell, this Honda bobber build has been an interesting journey. From having to find different metric parts, or hand making others to having someone make the frame we’ve finally gotten this bike past just a pile of parts on the floor! Now it’s up to a cool looking roller and we’re trying to get the last parts welded and done before sending it to powder-coat and back for final assembly. Damon should have a nice little kick butt bike when we’re through with this. The paint scheme so far is a black matte finish throughout the bike and will include scallops to keep the ol’ school feel. Gotta love that!

Motorcycle Cartoons and Comic Books?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Wheelie and Chopper BunchOk, it’s not breaking news or anything important but we still thought you’d get a kick out of this. Couple of friends and i were jawing the other day and one said he’d seen a bit of news over at the site Thenewcaferacerblog that had a feature on old cartoons. Which started us thinking (not really too hard as there was beer involved) on “what cartoons (or comic books) have been or are dedicated to motorcycles?” We could only think of one….Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch which was a 30-minute cartoon produced by Hanna-Barbera and was on TV for about a year back in the 70’s. Anyway, we thought it would be a “fun and giggles” thing if others threw their knowledge our way in this very scientific and important topic. We look forward to hearing from you.

Monday, May 5th, 2008

smokeouteast9_color_edited.jpgThis event over the years, has become one of the industries little “BIG” happenings. Granted, it doesn’t have the massive number of attendees or in a location some would go to (ie no beaches). But, it is one of the most “real” events we’ve had the privilege of attending for the past few years. Builders whether professional or amateur come to the Smoke-Out East to see what real everyday people are riding; see upcoming trends in design and catch new products from some of the industries most talented craftsmen. You’ll see people like Fab Kevin, Led Sled Customs, Lucky Charm Choppers, Ice Cream Man from Hell, Jail House Choppers, Hank Young, Deviant Designs, Billy Lane and others (yeah Guilty Customs will be there too) who attend regularly.
This years event finds the Horse changing locations to the Farmington Dragway (off of I-40 near where I-77 cross), as well as expanding the venue to include drag racing (average Joe’s drags and no prizes) and on-sight camping. It’s still “No one under 18 allowed” and will feature the regular topless bike washes and bull riding, t-shirt contests (t-shirts optional), a home built chopper show, camping, the Horse’s chop off, and ton’s of vendors and custom builders displaying their creations will be present. Guilty Customs Wide Glide Girder Front-Ends.

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

guiltywideglidegirder.jpgGuilty Customs announces the release of their first “Guilty Wide Glide” girder front end. Working with Paul Durfee this girder front-end uses 4130 seamless, aircraft allow tubing and is TIG welded and heat treated. The wide glide girder embodies the spirit of the industries original girders, but using modern day technology for one of the industries highest quality and most reliable wide glide front-ends. If your not familiar with TIG welding (also known as Heli-Arc) this process is the best and strongest way of building a front end. So, if you’re looking for something alot different than the same old front ends everyone else is using, check out the “Guilty Wide Glide“. There is free shipping and expect 4-6 weeks for delivery. Call for pricing. Lengths range from 2″ under to 11″ over at present. The Guilty Wide Glide will come raw but is available in chrome (at additional cost), so contact Guilty Customs for details. The very first “Guilty Wide Glide” girder is being put on Guilty’s build for Ash Spurlin, (the Special Ops soldier) returning from Afghanistan this summer. Check out his story HERE.

Broken Spoke Gets Limpnickie’d

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Limpnickie_Lot_LogoAs a participant in the inaugural “Limpnickie Lot” happenin’ at this years Daytona Bike Week, the “Guilty Gang” got to set up shop with some of the industries best and brightest. No ego’s, or stupid “posturing”, just guys looking to show their builds, have fun, make new or see old friends and enjoy the company of other builders. It was those of us that wanted to bring these events back to their roots….the people! So, we couldn’t think of ANY place else we’d want to be during Sturgis than with these same builders at the Limpnicki Lot at The Broken Spoke.

The Broken Spoke Saloon will bring the Limpnicki Lot to the X & Y generation by welcoming to the Broken Spoke Campground, those builders who enjoy building old school bikes, riding dirt bikes, skate boarding, flat track racing etc and all while listening to high energy music featuring alternative rock ‘n roll, punk bands, etc. “The “Limpnickie Lot” is all about generation X & Y, the two next generations of motorcyclists doing what they love to do. It’s more than just a place to hang out, it’s a place to get involved and have fun doing stuff” said Jay Allen, owner of the Broken Spoke.

“The Limpnickie Lot” will feature builders working on bikes and cool projects that are changing the industry as a whole. “There are no appearance fees here, just us, our bikes, our crew, our skateboards, our dirt bikes- just us” explains Limpnickie founder and owner of Nash Motorcycle Company Taber Nash. The “Limpnickie Lot” is located inside the Broken Spoke Campground and is taking reservations now for RV spaces, cabins and good old-fashioned camping grounds. The campground and the Biker Pool will operate from August 1 -10, 2008. Special early reservations apply, only $99 per person until June 15th. You can book now by going to RESERVATIONS or call (866) 754-2526.
