Solar Powered Cycle

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

solar-motorcycleedited.jpgNope, we’re not joking here. This is a real motorcycle powered by solar panels! Seems Jim Corning just couldn’t stand all that solar power going to waste so he commandeered his wife’s Kawasaki 250, did some quick “re-styling” and bingo, solar powered motorcycle.
Corning took some technology used in his company Prometheus Solar LLC and developed the bike. Corning showed the concept motorcycle at the Santa Monica AltCar Expo. The four panels behind Corning in the picture offer 800 watts, enough to recharge the bike. Apparently Corning is a bit hard on batteries as during testing he blew up the batteries twice. Currently, the bike uses lithium-ion phosphate batteries from Thundersky that have a 4.6 kWh capacity connected to a 10bhp motor for a top speed of 70mph and has a range of about 50 miles

Hey, thanks for coming back! Great to see there are a few of you out there that have taste and style! Seriously, thanks for visiting. If you know of stories you think people would be interested in, shoot us a line C'ya!

Zero to Lazy in Style

Monday, September 29th, 2008

If your a frequent attendee of motorcycle rallies (or any event that involves engines) you’ve probably seen these works of creativity tooling around the lots with friends enjoying themselves. Even our friends at Cook Customs has one we enjoyed at Sturgis this year, which after we returned to Florida, made us start looking to see what other creations were lurking around the world. This is a sample of what we found. Enjoy.

The Chrome Cow Girl Book

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

chromecowgirl2.jpgWe have to admit something, we are a bunch of lucky stiffs! We have a great life and enjoy “most” of the people we meet doing what we do. Every once and awhile though you meet that one “special person” that makes a indelible impression on you. Such is the case with Sasha Mullins. Three years ago while at the Horse SmokeOut we ran into Sasha and had a great time getting to know her and her passions. Her enthusiastism, captivating and genuine spirit along with her writing and musical talent is something that is uniquely Sasha. So when we run into her at events (like this years Sturgis), we always walk away feeling like we’ve been blessed in having such a great person as a friend. Well, now she’s spreading her unique message via written word in her newest book called “The Chrome Cow Girls“. A primer for women who ride, or want to, or might simply like to jumpstart their lives, the book addresses women astraddle in a way that’s as funny as it is informative. Whether it’s how to ride, what to do to your bike, or what to wear, Sasha has the advice. What’s more, her bike savvy and street strategies pack powerful lessons, offering a friendly word from the wisecracking on how to get the most out of life’s wild ride. You can find the book at Target, Barnes & Nobles and on Amazon.com. So, Sasha…..congrats! AND guys, don’t forget this makes a great Christmas gift for the woman in your life. You can also check her Myspace page HERE too.

The Big “Bitch Slap”?

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

bitch_slap_movie.jpg
Yeah, we know…”Just in time for Christmas!” Blood, bikes, babes and boobs. What more could you want from a movie? “Bitch Slap” attempts to bring to the big “B” screen a Quentin Tarantino styled movie. Big question is, will it be worth seeing? From the clip, i’d say no….unless your into boobs, babes and bikes. Well, maybe we will go and see it….i mean for “research” purposes. NOTE: We didn’t see one bike in the trailer so not sure how they will work that into the “plot”. Hmm. The movie trailer is HERE.

Butt Seriously….

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

Having ridden thousands of miles with friends, we at “Guilty” have had the opportunity of eating and drinking things we normally wouldn’t. Due to this life style we’ve regularly experienced our friends digestive issues caused by the excesses of such food/alcohol. But not to worry, there is finally a product that is helping us wade through the unpleasantness of such a lifestyle. Introducing Garmet Guard’s “Subtle Butt Guard“. This 3.25″ X 3.25″ square fabric pad (invented by Kim Olenicoff), uses activated carbon and adheres to the inside of your underwear and is billed as a “Disposable Gas Neutralizer”. As the wind breaks, Subtle Butt filters the flatulence, absorbing and neutralizing its odor. Now my friends can eat as many burritos as they want and still have a social life. I’m already breathing a sigh of relief! The only question we have is what isles would you find these in at the drug store?….”hm. Pet Food, Laundry detergent, Fart guards?” Available in a five pack, they retail for $9.95 per pack…

Big Dog Announces 3rd Round of Lay-offs

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

bigdoglogosmall.gif Big Dog Motorcycles as of Friday has laid off 22 employees and will lay off 27 more in the next 60 days. The layoffs are a consequence of economic problems, which no motorcycle company has been immune to this year.

“We’re resizing the company to reposition it so when the economy rebounds we’ll have the right product, and we’ll still be a viable player in the marketplace,” Paul Hansen Marketing Director of Big Dog says.

Hansen says high-end motorcycle sales, which Big Dog specializes in, have been on the decline for the last two to three years. “Then we come into this year with the mortgage crisis,” he says. “That’s kind of hurts us on both fronts, because a lot of our customer base is the people who build the houses — a lot of home builders and contractors and blue-collar workers.” Lenders tightening credit standards, high gas prices and the upcoming presidential election have also contributed to the slump, Hansen says.

“Why They Ride” Moto-Documentary

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

whytheridelogo.jpgRecently we came across a very well produced moto-documentary called “Why They Ride“, produced by two brothers, (the wilkinson’s), who journey from Indianapolis to Deals Gap. Also known as the Tail of the Dragon. If you’ve never experienced this part of the county your definitely missing something in your riding journal. During the ride you will experience 318 turns in a stretch of 11 miles of Highway 129 that runs between Tennessee and North Carolina through the Smoky Mountains. Along the way the brothers capture not only the beautiful scenery and fast bikes but also expertly interview bikers and find out what riding means to them. You’ll hear how this adventure helped a 75 year old father make up for lost time with his son or hear how motorcycling helped a young woman deal with cancer or hear from a couple on their way to see a dying friend. Oh, yeah, we don’t want to hear any comments ’bout us “chopper guys” not really riding either. You’ll see plenty of us riding that part of the country!

“We Ride” Magazine for Women

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

hd_weride-224×300.jpgHey, we’re all about “supporting” the women and their efforts toward equality as well as their motorcycling lifestyles. So, we have to give H-D kudo’s for their efforts along the lines of “inclusion” in their newest online magazine called “We Ride”. BUT, you do have to wonder whether all these efforts for a “separate women’s” lifestyles will in itself promote “separation of the sexes“? Thoughts!

Here is what the head of Community Outreach had to say:

We Ride serves as an inspirational and educational brochure for non-riders and newly licensed female riders alike. The guide features women riders sharing their passion, apparel designed specifically for women and information beginner riders need to know before they hit the road, along with many other topics specific to women riders.

So, for you women readers out there, you can go HERE to download the pdf magazine.
