Ok, we’ve been getting some emails about why the Gang has not posting as frequently as we normally do. To be frank, we’ve not had the time. Granted we’ve had some time to “Twitter” (check us out at HERE), but that is due to being able to do the updates from our iPhone. Anyway, the bottom line on the reason for the slow down is we’re moving the family (and opening another shop) in SoCal (Orange to be exact) and travel has been crazy. Let me reiterate, CRAZY! Between getting wife settled in new job to finding a new place to live, moving equipment, shopping for household furniture and shop equipment, flying back and forth and doing a cross country motorcycle trip with the wifey, to getting news we had a fire at the house (while we were in SoCal), we’ve been a bit distracted. But don’t despair you loyal readers, we’re not forgetting our responsibilities. We are hoping to make MoutainFest and Sturgis barring any issues or drama.
Hey, thanks for coming back! Great to see there are a few of you out there that have taste and style! Seriously, thanks for visiting. If you know of stories you think people would be interested in, shoot us a line C'ya!
So, what do Jesse James of “West Coast Choppers”, Kat Von D of “LA Ink” and the Los Angeles County Coroners Office have in common? Yep, a “Coffin Couch”. This SoCal company, called “Coffin Couches” believes in “Recycling”. Literally. Their niche: 18 gauge steel coffins collected from local funeral homes since health and safety laws forbid funeral homes from reselling used coffins to the general public. Rest assured though that the coffins are not used for burial due to slight cosmetic inconsistencies.
Coffin Couch reconfigures and modifies the coffins for a ”unique one of a kind coffin couch”. As as an added bonus, you get your own biohazard insignia too! Right there on the six cast iron legs are embossed the universal biohazard insignia. The reason? We’ll let them tell you. Quoted from their website: “If you are not aware, once a human body is placed in a coffin it is considered biohazard tissue. The legs have the embossed insignia for precautionary reasons in the event body fluids are exchanged on these coffins. Perhaps you would feel safe knowing that you are in designated biohazard scene!“. Funny.
So what type of uses would you have for such as fun piece of furniture. Hmm, as they suggest on the website: Retirement Parties, Game Rooms, Custom Company Logos, Small intimate hook-ups, Team Sports. Just to name a few. The price: $3500.00. “Dude, slide over will ya?! I need to rest a bit…got a slight headache and ringing in my ears.”
The Legends Ride, sponsored by the Buffalo Chip, kicks of the 2009 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally on Monday, August 3rd and the event will include Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, and a host of the nation’s top bike builders, (see HERE) in addition to cigar aficionados and artist.
“The Black Hills have long been known as rider’s paradise, and the Legends Ride takes it one step further. You start in a town that’s infamous – Deadwood – ride through some of the nation’s best territory, and finish in the granddaddy of all motorcycle dreams – Sturgis and the Legendary Buffalo Chip; and you benefit charities,” said Rod Woodruff of the Legendary Buffalo Chip. “Every participant in this year’s Legends Ride is going to be talking about this very special event for the rest of their lives.”
The Legends Ride is hosted by the Legendary Buffalo Chip and the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce. The Legends Ride is a fundraiser for the Children’s Home of the Black Hills and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame. Last year’s event raised nearly $40,000 for charity.
Details and tickets are available at LegendsRide.com or by calling (605) 347-9000. The 2009 Legends Ride is a $150 contribution, 100% of which goes to the charities. Contributing riders not only get to enjoy the ride but also a special souvenir gift pack, special parking privileges in Deadwood and the Legendary Buffalo Chip, meet-and-greet opportunities with master builders and celebrities, food and drinks at an invite only reception scheduled to be recorded for broadcast in a network television series and, to top off the experience, concert performances by rocker Lita Ford and country music superstar Toby Keith. The Legends Ride reception will be highlighted by a live auction featuring “The Deadwood Special,” a unique custom motorcycle built by Kyle Shorey of Shadetree Fabrications and a pinstriping demonstration by Buck Wild.

Last year we reported on this event and apparently people responded by riding their bikes to work, school and for leisure that day. All due to us here at Guilty Truth! Sure, yeah, right. Seriously, this movement has taken on quite a following over the last 18 years and we hope to help by spreading the word. But then again, our readers rarely need an excuse to throw a leg over their bike to ride. Check it out and participate. “Ride To Work Day“, June 15th.
Here is interesting facts:
On Ride to Work Day, there are an estimated 150,000 additional Ride to Work Day commuting motorcycles and 150,000 less commuting car, light truck and SUV’s. A 6 mile (avg) commute x 2 (both ways) x 150,000 commutingcar, light truck and SUV’s = 1,800,000 car, light truck and SUV miles. 1,800,000 car, light truck and SUV miles / 20mpg (avg) = 90,000 gallons. 90,000 less car, truck and SUV gallons – 30,000 more gallons used on Ride to Work Day = 60,000 less gallons of fuel used on Ride to Work Day. If every work day were Ride to Work Day, 60,000 gallons saved x 250 work days = 15,000,000 less gallons used per year.
Being a frustrated pilot myself, i can see why someone would want to combine two of their passions. The easiest leap of imagination would be that of motorcycles and flying. Thus the reason this story got my attention. The people at Samson Motorworks are introducing the new line of Multi Mode Vehicles (MMV). The Switchblade™ a three-wheeled Flying Motorcycle is the first of this new vehicle line to meet the growing demand for flying cars and roadable aircraft. Using a scissors wing and torsion bar lean system, the new product line offers motorcycle simplicity, economy and excitement – blended with the versatility of being able to fly and drive… Or if flying isn’t your bag get ready for one of their “green” ground-only vehicles…where you still feel the thrill of flying while driving on the highway! Here are some spec’s on the bike, oh, i mean plane, oh, bikeplane, uh, you know what i mean! The wings swing closed under the belly of the vehicle, protected from road grunge and rock dings by a clamshell case and a structural keel that takes impacts. Sporting a three-surface design, in which all wings lift, drag is reduced further by the fact of needing less wing. The Ferrari-inspired clean shape is slowed on landings by fowler flaps. Large rear wheels are located aft to provide room for the main wings to swing closed, thus the nose lifts five degrees for take-off attitude – you literally fly the plane off the runway without rotating! Side-by-side seating, more range, less weight, slower landing speed, room for golf clubs, and a wide cabin.
Preliminary Specifications:
Estimated GTOW = 1400 LB (Gross Take-off Weight)
LENGTH = 15’- 6”
WIDTH = 5’- 6”
HEIGHT = 5’-1”
SEATS = 2 (side by side)
SPEED = 90+ mph on wheels – 134 mph cruise flying
RANGE = 880 miles ground, 340 miles air
MPG = Estimated 60 mpg ground, 22 mpg air
WINGSPAN = 23’ – 5” main, 5′ 6” canard.
WING LOADING = 20 psf
ENGINE = 120 hp Freedom Motor twin rotor (or applicable motorcycle engine)
ESTIMATED TBO = 2500 hours (Time Between Major Overhauls)
FUEL = regular unleaded automobile gasoline (any fuel capable – freedom motor)
FUEL CAPACITY = 16 gallons including reserve
STALL SPEED = 70 mph
Ok, for once trade in that latte, the pizza and/or the beer to support a worthy cause. Make a sacrifice. Our troops have, why can’t we. Right?! Yeah. We were recently introduced to this builder in the UK Mac Motorcycles, and were blown away with what he’s using to build his bikes. Their bikes are powered by the Buell® single cylinder, air-cooled, 2-valve, 492cc, 5-speed ‘Blast‘ engine. Most of you know (if you’re a regular follower here) that we have done a few Buell’s in our past and am even coming out with a line of frames to accommodate this awesome engine. With the Blast, we can also understand this builders affection (with their automatic valve adjustment and hydraulic lifters). And, with the transmission down low, (thus giving a low centre-of-gravity) not only do you get some great handling, but you can make some cool looking bikes. While the Mac bikes exploit the power-to-weight ratio principle with this great little motor and a very light rolling chassis, it may not appeal to those “big thump, thump V-Twin” engine lovers out there. BUT, for for our bucks and those more economically minded or interested in something other than Big Twins, this should be on your short list. Of course now the question on our mind is “does it come with fries” and “can i upload my iTunes to it?”. Nah, didn’t think so!
Looks like Zack and Scott from One World Studios are at it again! Leveraging off the success of their previous releases the guys are definitely on a roll now. We’re always excited to see the stuff coming out of their crafty hands/minds and this film looks like it definitely won’t disappoint anyone! The teaser is HERE. The release date is scheduled for July of 09 so keep track of their site. The Harbortown Bobber Website has some pretty cool pic’s of the bike also. Great job guys!
