If you ride and especially IF you’ve ridden for any length of time, you HAVE had the opportunity of meeting someone that USE to ride motorcycles. However due to a catastrophic accident they no longer are able to do so. Our friend Brian uses a modified H-D Servi-car, but for the most part, paraplegic’s give up their riding helmets and boots as well as the fun and freedom they experienced while riding. Well this is about to change, hopefully. Seems a chance encounter with a paraplegic ex-motorcross champion in a hospital parking lot inspired West Australian Darren Lomman to put together an audacious project: a motorcycle for paraplegic riders - and his working prototype, a heavily modified Honda CBR250RR, is now road licensed and operational. The CBR250RR started off as a University project and has been modified to accommodate riders paralyzed from the chest down, with thumb-activated pneumatic rams for foot-free gear shifting, a combined braking system, custom-moulded ergonomic cups to hold the rider in place without any lower body strength, and a set of steel-braced “landing gear” wheels that drop to provide stability at very low speeds. Lomman and his company Dreamfit are seeking investors to make the project a viable reality for disabled riders.

I’m trying not to laugh as i post this so here goes. Ok, we all know that if you ride a rigid cycle or have a habit of riding long distances on your bike, you WILL get a case of “baboon butt“. That nice tickle numb feeling on your back side and no matter what you do (stopping, stretching, re-adjusting, butt puckering, etc) your going to be receiving that gift once you hit a few hundred miles. Period, no argument. Well, some people have resorted to a bit more practical manner to address this and taking the cue’s from our non-motorized friends, the bicyclist. Seem a company called Greenknickers has a solution for riders. It’s their padded underwear that has removable padding in the “cheek section” (unlike regular biking shorts that leave that unsightly “bulge” in the butt section). The briefs and boxershorts are 100% organic (cotton, bamboo and hemp). You wear them like normal underwear, and when you go riding, place the padding inside. Once at your destination, remove the padding, and you’re “normal” again. GreenKnickers has quite a selection available in men’s and women’s styles. The cost is reasonable, about US $29 U.S. Think of all the pain you’ll save…and your butt will thank you too!

Oh, the challenges some V-Twin riders have to endure. They own a newly bored and re-jetted long stroke motor that needs ton’s of starting juice but can’t keep a starter for more than a few months at a time. What’s a fella to do? Well, Baker has heard your cries and come out with a 3hp (2.3 kilowatts for our metric folks) starter! As custom builders we’re frequently lead to believe (yes we can be fooled too) that when we buy a starter from one of our suppliers (not all, but some) we’re actually going to receive a “new” one. But what we get is a “rebuilt” starter. One that have been “remanufactured” using rebuilt (used) cores and sold as new. And yes, the O.E. Harley starters may have the durability but don’t have the juice. Bakers new Firestarters are the most powerful starters available and each unit is tested on a dynamometer for proper function and has an individual dyno sheet to validate the output. If you want to see one, click HERE.
The Firestarters comes in show chrome finish with a polished end cap and are available in conventional remote start as well as manual push button. However they won’t fit FLs due to clearance issues. For more info on these starter go to Baker’s site! So, now all you big twin owners won’t have to be asking “Hey buddy, can i get a jump here?”

If your a regular reader here on the Guilty Truth Blog, you know we’re very supportive of any laws, products or efforts to cut down on motorcycle deaths and accidents. Granted this invention won’t result in a direct reduction to the problems motorcyclist experience; such as cagers (car driver) who either turn left in front of them, OR the car runs red lights. But it would give them notice. This invention from Hanyoung Lee is a virtual wall that provides a barrier made up of plasma laser beams depicting pedestrians doing their thing. Any car that crosses that “barrier” would suffer the consequences! Whatever that is! They just have to figure out how they can hook up some laser beam to inflict “consequences” to those law breakers who invade the designated area or cross in front of oncoming traffic; like cutting their car in half or putting a nice football sized hole in their ride? Just a thought.

Over the last few years, Renegade has been riding on the cutting edge of custom wheel design and their new collection of 3-piece wheels is no exception. The new rims are, in fact, cut from solid blocks of billet. Each block is machined to rim shape, the center is removed and then the remaining rim is laser cut in half. The inner section is machined to any of Renegade’s signature styles from solid billet and bolted between the halves using grade 8, 12 point cap screws and lock nuts. This 3 piece design means you can order any style you like finished in black powder coat, chrome or any combination of the two. Very Cool! All Wheels are shipped complete with applicable hubs and bearings and are available in diameters from 16”-23” and widths from 2.25” to 14”. Pricing on the 3-piece Renegade starts at just $1550.00 and that includes a Lifetime Structural Warrantee! For complete details and interactive fitment chart, check out http://www.renegadewheels.com/

Lucky Charm Choppers were our neighbors at this years Limpnicki Lot during Bike Week. One of the coolest products we scoped out during the event were these “free spinning Polished BS Kicker” pedals. These beauties are made from solid brass stock with machined and welded stainless steel end plates. When Duncan makes these he uses all stainless hardware on a chrome shaft and 1 size fits most applications. Seeing this kicker pedal on one of their bikes you quickly realize that not only were they cool looking, but they were very functional. And with these being handmade the $175.00 price tag is very reasonable. So the question now is “why go with just a regular kicker pedal, when you can have one like this?!”

Recently we were talking with a friend who is the owner of a new H-D Nightster who swore to us that the new line of “Dark Customs” have paint which is made “to scratch and wear off”. Of course we thought he had too many beers….but sure enough he was sober….seems a NY Times article written by Phil Patton quotes Ray Drea, who is the Sr. Director for Styling at H-D as saying “One of the paints is called “denim”. It is designed to be roughed and rubbed off.” So, now along with your jeans which are a bit dirtied, torn, frayed and worn, now your bike can be too. Seems the manufacturer (and possibly others) are following a trent of building “new old looking” bikes. Of course if your an “old dog” that has had a bike (or two, three etc) for any amount of time, your bike is already “roughed up and rubbed off“. It’s that way because the bikes are built to be ridden. Of course if a buyer wants a bike that looks like it’s already been to “hell and back” they can bring it over to our new “conditioning department” for some fine tuning and “breaking in“. And we’ll only charge you a extra 2k for it. Or if your really wanting that seasoned rider look, just order the bike raw, break out the rattle can’s, drink a few beers and have at it. Wouldn’t cost you more than $100.00 or so.

Whether your doing new builds, restorations or just regular maintenance, bushings can wear, decay and generally be a pain. Kundratic Kustom Motorcycles announced the introduction of their Superior Tank Mounts - the original polyurethane bushings for stock (flatside) and custom gas tank mounts. Two-piece in design and precision molded in black polyurethane, these mounts fit all stock and custom applications. They will not dry-rot, crack or crumble, they are oil & solvent resistant and they’re unaffected by heat & cold. Retail is $26.95 and that’s cheap insurance for your sheet metal and paint. Replaces OEM #11447.

Velocity stacks have been around since the early days when some guys were needing to get more air volume into their engines (whether that was car or motorcycles) so it’s nothing new. And VC’s have taken on various forms/shapes and guys have used various materials based upon their preference. Of course they made their way over to custom motorcycles years ago too due to a couple of reason. 1) They wanted to move a large volume of air into a tight space quickly, 2) They were looking to have something cool between their legs while they rode or 3) they like shiny chrome things to rub on. The Detroit Brothers have a new stack that adds somewhat of a twist to the ever growing line of VC’s. It’s called the “Malice Velocity Stack“. It will fit your stock HD Big Twin Carb from ‘84+, and will also fit S&S Carbs (Super E & G). If your running Mikuni carb’s you’ll have to buy the adapter bracket. MSRP $149.99 in raw aluminum or $169.99 in polished aluminum. Available in raw aluminum (shown) or high polished (+20.00). Measures 5″ OD x 2.25″ thick. K&N Air Filter (shown) not included, but available for $35.00. Looks like we’ll be calling the Bro’s up and getting something new for our next build! Sweet!
