They say “a picture is worth a thousand words“. Well, here’s our thousand! Can’t really determine if i like this or not, however you have to give them credit for creativity! And they use a H-D V-Rod engine.
Vintage film of boardtrack racing with motorcycles — teens to 1920’s in Daytona Beach FLA. Having only seen old still photo’s of these types of races it puts a whole other view of the courage these riders had to possess as well as how fast these machines were capable of at that time. I’d venture to say that these racers would call our modern day racing jocks “sissy”. What do you think? Board-tracks were wooden tracks built in the early 1900’s that were abondoned or dismantled after serious weathering caused the death of riders and even spectators.
Seems like it’s been a very productive and have to say insightful week here at Sturgis. I’ll probably be rambling with this post as there are a number of things i’m wanting to put out to the readers here. First, attendance. While it appears like numbers are down, we see alot of riders and activity in surrounding ares such as Spearfish, Deadwood, Lead and other cities. Is this a trend that is reflecting the desire of the people to get away from the commercialism, hoarding, crowds and BS that’s now Sturgis? Not sure. I did spend a very nice day in Deadwood, where the vendors were happy with foot traffic and sales, as well as the restaurants and hotels are busy.
Here’s something that struck some of us as we were watching riders here on Main Street….What is it with all these “riders” that are dragging their feet when leaving a stop and before stopping? Is this a sign of insecurity in their skills or inexperience? Doing such is not only dangerious but shows the level of that persons comfort with riding a bike, whether it’s a chopper, bobber or stock bike. Maybe they should go back and take some additional Motorcycle safety classes! It is amazing that with so many bikes present there aren’t more accidents here in Sturgis. We’ve heard it said that “angels watch over children and fools”. Hmmm, angels must be working overtime this week. Our friends Ted and Pam Smith pulled off another great Rats Hole show with not only some record entries, but some awesome bikes being represented. We’ve really enjoyed this show over the years and look to participate regularly with them. If you get a chance you have to go to one of their events to experience the professionalism as well as unique bikes that try to win that Big Rat Trophy. It really is great to have one in our showcase here at Guilty too.
You’ll be seeing the “Wardens” mug posing with some beauties shortly in various magazines, so don’t laugh too hard. We at Guilty are really excited about this partnership with Gatorz as they have a long history in the off road, Indy and Nascar industry and now they are heading into the motorcycle arena with some awesome high tech and stylish eyewear. Keep an eye out for the “Gatorz” chopper that Guilty will start shortly too. As Sturgis winds down, we can’t help but think about all the interesting (odd, strange, bizzaar, scary too) people and new friend we’ve made here. We have to admit that while it’s tiring and hot (100+ mind you!), the event has taken on a new meaning for us as we meet up with old friends and make new ones. If you’ve not made it to Sturgis before, try hard to do so in the next few years or so….you won’t regreat the experience and you won’t forget the people.
Well, we’ve had two days here of beautiful weather, great riding and meeting up with friends, cohorts and others. The event got off (unofficially as it starts officially Monday) with some twists. Seem the first night we’re in town the fine men-in-blue shut down a major drug deal in the works..(going on right on Main St!!?…can we say “duh”?) and then on Saturday night there was a bomb threat that brought out the bomb squad and the bomb robot. Other than forcing everyone away from the area for their protection the night was uneventful. We’ve put together a little video for your viewing pleasure. So enjoy. There will be more updates as time allows! We’ll be heading to the hill climbing events, drag races and gun slinger event. May even go over to the range and shoot a Sherman Tank and machine gun! Yeah, you read it right…we’ve got almost everything anyone would want to play with here for the next few days! Warden and Gang.
If you like AMERICAN CHOPPER on the Discovery Channel, you will enjoy AMERICAN FABRICATOR! The featured character is a self-employed fabricator working out of his own shop with welding equipment and machine tools.
As we’re seeing, fabrication is a lost art and these skills (and humor) will die with the remaining fabricators left in America while places like China and Taiwan pick up the slack. I had to laugh periodically as this show is entertaining and almost educational. You can watch the drama unfold as the fabricator dodges burglars, tornados, hail storms, and a wide variety of shop disasters. Enjoy and learn.
Here at Guilty, if you take the time to talk with us you’ll find we have some pretty opinionated people hanging around. When it comes to the war our nation is involved in thought, we’re not going to get into any debates on the validity or purpose. But one thing we will do is support our troops and their families. So watch this video and next time you see a serviceman/woman tell them you appreciate their sacrifice. Regardless of whether you are for or against the war.
I’m not an advocate for violence by any means, but this set of commercials is awesome! Done for a auto group out west someplace, it’s something we bikers wish we had for dealing with idiotic cagers who don’t think or look when they drive. Enjoy!
